Amanpuri just different class hotel I believe, and wont go that cheap to charge you for an extra person. Beside as you said, villa had some free bedrooms....I had same situation in One and Only,Maldives..........my friend came to visit and decided to stay for overnight, since he were pretty wasted and had to take 1 hour boat trip back to the hotel.

You might but many won't...especially first timers here who have probably never heard of the concept of Joiner Fees.

Yes as someone else has said it is most likely staff round the lifts or in the lobby reporting to reception guests taking ladies back to their rooms. I once had the same happen to me in the Holiday Inn here on my very first visit to Thailand. I knew nothing about Joiner Fees and got stopped at the lift when taking a lady back to my room and told I had to go to reception and pay.

Sorry the thread title may be misleading as it is really more about unexpected fees being added to bills than Russian h00kers.

Re: the JF: when I book in online I usually always check what the difference is between 1 person (me) and another person. Usually it is next to nothing (at the most a few more $s).

When I check in they usually ask where my GF is and I explain we are arriving separately as I work across Asia.

Whenever I get back to the hotel with a BG I almost always get asked to go to the counter by a security guard but once I show them my booking sheet (and they check on system) we just move on - simple and easy as... enjoy!

I thought we had established that it is not a scam, that the girls really do it for free, and that the 3000 bath (1) is what the hotel charges as a joiner fee.

(1) 2500 bath plus some extra + 10% + 7%

It has always been my belief, based on my one person's experience, that the price of the massage has nothing to do with the quality(generally speaking, there may be a few exceptions). I think your knowledge about the massage business on Phuket confirms my theory. Thanks!

From reading threads on here ( no personal experience) in "guest" friendly hotels don't they take the girls ID so if something happens they have her ID? Does bringing them in like that not worry you seeing as the security guard would just see her as your GF and not question her leaving without signing out? You could be up in your room with your underpants stuffed in your mouth and all your valuables nicked?

My understanding of scam means that, for example, a guy lounging around the pool (a legit guest) meets a girl who is also lounging around the pool (another legit guest) and they get on like a house on fire so go back to his room for a bit of slap and tickle, the guy will end up with a Joiner Fee on his bill????
Sorry, I don't buy it!!! Not in a 4 or 5 star hotel anyway!!

As far as there be ******s in the pool, then (in theory) they should already have paid their joiner fee to get access to the pool. Therefore the chap that suposedly chats her up should not have to pay a second JF!! The argument I would use is the one above or ask if all guests have to have their room number tattooed on their arms!

This scam would only work when the caught out guest has something to hide!!!

If I pulled some 6 ft blonde bomdshell into my room for a bit of afternoon delight without even having to leave the hotel, I would be telling the whole world about it!!!

My first experience with a go-go girl, or any thai working girl for that matter, was during my first visit to Pattaya. At the time, I had no clue about the scene and wasn't planning on taking anyone back with me, hell, I didn't realize I could at the time! I was staying at a high end hotel during that time. Well, it was also my first experience with paying a joiner fee.

Took the girl back to the hotel, scared sh!tless about being seen by others with a girl in tow, waltz into the hotel with the girl and smiling to the 2 security guards standing near the entrance to the elevator. Was stopped and directed us to the receptionist desk. Got me worrying. That was when they had me pay the joiner fee and after which, allowed my guess to come up the elevator with me.

If it's true what this hotel is doing with their guests, it's complete bullsh!t and unfair to their guests. The appropriate actions from the hotel should be to approach those they believe are taking guests back up to the room and having them register their guests and paying the joiner fee as it happens.

You bring up some very good points.

Because if the staff was not spying on a guy, then how would they know when he takes a farang woman to his room, that she is not his wife?

Especially if they went there from the pool. Because what was she doing at the pool, unless she was either staying there or a ******. If she was staying there, then she has already paid to be there, so how can they charge for what she has already paid for? If she was a ******, but didn't ask for payment then she must be in on a scam with the hotel, since h00kers do not work for free.

Either way, something is fishy at Le Meridien. Or the whole OP's story is completely false.

go to radisson in sotchi at the black sea. upper floor for guests with girls only. some guys got surprised when they found natascha or ilona was billed as roomservice on the creditcard bill.

Do not be fooled by Le Meridian International brand, some hotels operate on franchise basis too (pay a royalty to use the brand name) ............. for this specific hotel though, I do not know if it is Le Meridian owned, or Joint Venture or a franchise
