It is difficult to talk in turns of generalism when you are making statements about race. Because, you truly begin to walk a very *fine line* in doing so. But, just look at the education system in certain asian countries where the kids are pressured to be the best. I remember reading about there are some countries where the difference in getting top 10% of your graduating class and getting top 20% is the difference between success and poverty level. And unlike other countries, you do not marry out of your class structure. Also, I saw where teenage kids would commit suicide for not getting the grades they were expecting. The pressure to succede is so high that(although not a good thing) you are systematically forcing your country onward and upward while at the same time widening the gap in between what is success and what is failure. Only the superpowers of today...europe and america endulge in the concept of middle class. IMHO

I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion, Frode's wife is not posting here. Frode is relating what she said without expressing an opinion either way, I think he is wrong for posting it.

And remember, Frode has to live with her: Constant criticism will just lead to resentment and undermine the relationship. Far better to introduce her gradually to positive role-models and representatives of other cultures and let her change her views herself through her own experience.

Sorry, (almost put bollox there) but I disagree strongly. Wrong is wrong and the more we pussyfoot around the longer it will take for people to realise that some things just can not be right.

Stop right there. You are waving your education in front of my face and I don't like it one bit. You may be entitled to the intellectual high ground but I am entitled to my opinion, naive as it may be. Sharing the experience could have been done in many ways, I think there is too much detail here and it serves no purpose. We would have been equally well informed had Frode told us that his wife 'has some racist views'.

Agreed it is of value, but in the context it was reported I found it offensive and unneccessary. It also tells us absolutely nothing about the root of the problem. All this discussion does is confirm that the problem exists, people will make judgements based on little or no first-hand experience. When they express that judgment as an opinion I think it right and proper for the rest of us (or me, as it seems) to say 'sorry, you are wrong to say that and you are wrong to hold that opinion'

I was reading the post about Nana Car Park and\or Angel Disco and was thinking....although I honestly did not mean to bring this back up but it fits this post...... are there any *darker skinned people* walking around then. I was reading the post on that page and have heard so many good things about it but then the idea crept into my head about this topic and I almost started thinking is it even worth making the time for this.


What I am saying is, now that I know that I am coming back to LOS in september\october, do I really want to make this one of my *must do* items. Because it takes a certain mindset to be up and about at that time of night...i.e.... you are passing up alot of other opportunities:mad2: and playing the odds that something\someone :love2: better can be had then. I am just wondering from the different BMs have you noticed anyone of ethnic origin walking around.

My first trip I booked 20 days. On the 18th, I freaked out, thinking that "Tomorrow will be my last day." I was willling to pay for a whole new tiket, if that is what it took! Went to a travel agent who called China Airlines in BKK, and got the ticket changed for me. It took all afternoon, on and off, calling BKK and faxing a copy of my ticket there. But I was a very happy camper when I got a 2-week reprieve. Cost to me was about 100 Baht for phone and fax, plus 100 Baht tip, which I had to insist the girl take, as she wanted nothing for her time spent! When you book with China, your ticket is good for 6 (or 12?) months, and you can change anytime you want, subject to availability. I think that Eva's policy is similar, but might be a $100 m/l charge, maybe not. However, you do take the risk that all flights will be booked, in which case you are stuck with your scheduled departure. That is why it took all afternoon. First, they said, "Nothing available, try later," so we kept trying. Finally, the guy called back while I was out eating. When I came back, she said, "Call BKK quick! They have a seat!" Called, booked it! One of the happiest moments of my life! It was only then that I asked how much I owed and the BKK airline guy says, "Nothing!!" Wow! Happy on top of happy!

Sorry for not posting for the last ours when it was me who posted my wifes views, but I had to go over to my nightclub to fix something.

I want to start the post all over again.

I don't like at all what she is saying, and I try all I can to make her understand that what she hear and learn in Issan or Patong is not right and no matter how people look we can all be good people. But what I tried to tell was that she doesn't know any better, she even believes in ghost because people have told her they exist. So when older bargirls tell her that black people smell then she believes that too. I can also tell you that if I show her a globe and ask her to point at a country (even Thailand) she has no idea where to put her finger, and she doesn't know in which part of the world she is in now (in Norway yes, but on the map no).
I am sorry if I hurt some of the BM's, maybe I should not have posted my wifes views, but I am a open minded person and I would have posted the same if it was about stupid and drunk Norwegians too.

Last night she told me a story from the Honey Bar too.
A black guy wanted to BF one of the girls and she went with him to the hotel. He took a shower first and when she was finish in the shower she wanted to turn off the light. Everything was black and she could not see the guy.
