US Navy in Patong - Good or Bad?

So just read that the US Navy will be in town next weekend, same time as i arrive. Just want to ask those that are in the know. Does it effect the Nightlife? Less girls to go round or more? Do the girls change how they act? Put up prices? More fights/angry tut tuk drivers?

Iv been around twice when they have been in town...always been on there best behaviour...both times been struck how young there were

you will see them out and about in the daytime but at night they are very scarce after around 10pm....pretty sure they are on curfew

as others have said they are a pleasure to have in town and are great ambassadors for their institution

Very good for the girls and LB's! too, they get a LOT more for ST's... The beauty salons do a roaring trade in the days comming up to arrival also (or disembarkation in Navy speak )

I've been around a few times when different ships were in or at the Island. One trip not too long ago I was drinking with a few of them in MTB, they went there every night for about a week, these guys (as I recall) were some sort of specialists and a little older. Good guys all in all, up for a bit of fun and spending money to beat the band. :great:

Went to one Bangla BGs room many years ago, she had a collection of about a dozen different US navy baseball caps, all hanging displayed on the wall above her bed..made me chuckle

When I last stayed at the Deevana there was about twenty military guys and girls staying there for a couple of days, they were a nice bunch, any encounters in Patts or Patong I have always found them polite and well behaved

Yea it just depends on who the CO is if they are allowed to stay over night or not. They're always on good behavior and aren't allowed to really get out of control.

Remember when the RN and RAN used to be there at the same time, some huge bust ups in a few different bars, made for great viewing.

I spent 6 months with the RN in 2000 on a round the world trip. Many ports of call (Closest to Phuket was Penang and Bangkok) and in all that time I only saw one fight and that involved a member of a different Navy (Who subsequently died from his injuries, let's just say it was in San Diego) - Yes, there was some sorry states coming back aboard, some serious hangovers and a few injurys from falling in ditches and off hondapeds in Vietnam etc during the trip but as I say, not one incident that I am aware of any of the crew getting into a scrap.

Best one i saw was at the old Bangla centre (now soi easy) between RAN and RN, also a good one that i think started at roo bar but not sure as it ended up on the street.
i think it was around 96 or 97.
All tidied up these days i guess and have never seen the Sepos blueing.
I dont think they have any simultaneous visits anymore do they?

It is a nice hotel, I had one of the Jacuzzi rooms, although it's about a 15 min walk to Bangla , so if you are with a girl the a tuk-tuk is required, although I haven't stayed there for three years because they changed their guest policy and started charging a joiner fee , but good if you are already with someone

You will spot them in the day time as they are all like clones of eath other - shorts, vests, sports shoes socks, rucksack on the back and v.v short haircuts

but some of the best behaved visitors to the island from what I can see- the girls will not be the only ones rubbing their hands- Burger **** McDonalds and Starbucks will also be ringing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ their tills

prices for ST will increase
getting a 1000 THB LT will be a little bit difficulter (depends on you - how handsome you are...)
A-go-go bars will open early. e.g. Suzy Wong will open earlier
MP will check out what the NAVI guys are doing...
Anyway, much better to see the Amis instead of the Russians!
