In the US, the risk to the public is currently deemed low. And just about every health expert Vox has spoken to has said there’s little evidence to support the use of face masks for preventing disease in the general population….That’s why the CDC advises against the use of masks for regular Americans. “The virus is not spreading in the general community”

While there are cases in at least 25 other countries, they haven’t yet turned into local outbreaks.... It’s really East Asia and Southeast Asia that are most at risk.

Makes sense. Clearly you are at a lower level of paranoia than some others.

I guess my main message is we need to keep things in perspective and not fall victims of the 'infodemic' by indulging in excessive worry and personal precautions not commensurate with the risk.

As of this morning still only three cases in Ontario so far, and only one death in the entire world outside China.

So the chances of anyone catching it here are currently very low, but if you were somehow incredibly unlucky enough to catch it that could pretty much happen anywhere, not just your local spa.

And even in really unlikely event that you did get sick, your chances of not recovering appear likely be somewhat similar to not recovering from the flu, a permanent risk which nevertheless doesn't generate anywhere near the same level of hysteria.
