sad to hear a fellow counrtyman died. has it been confirmed he is austrian nationality?

has anybody of you guys bought a kniife at the various stalls in
patong ? why they offer stuff like that anyways? i could
not think of buying a stabbing weapon when im down there anyways.
hence the trouble you get when things like that appear when you
get to the airport scanner. tss.

So this indeed happened everyone agrees on that....However I've been reading all kinds of online forums and newspapers and not a word printed hmmmm strange or a conspiracy???
A long time ago a friend told me a story of a Farang who wouldn't stop cutting in on the police business in Samui, apparently he died from a hit on the head from a falling coconut. I don't think it is a matter of acceptable or not acceptable. Any able-bodied man has it in his power to kill another man. There is no legal or moral right to do so, but there is a right of birth, by virtue of the fact that God gave us the power to do so. So if a man is willing to face the consequences of his actions, then he may do as he pleases, and pay the penalty afterwards, if he is brought to justice.

With all due respect mate, the above is wank. `A man may do what he pleases`? WTF? We may all disagree about standards of morality, but without morality a man is simply a psychopath.

What it all boils down to, is that maybe people should just show a little more respect for one another, and consider the fact that another man may hold his honor above his freedom, and, for that reason, you should not go around insulting others, but treat them with respect. Recognize that if you treat others in a demeaning way, that there may be a risk involved, and a price to pay.

You can't go wrong with this philosophy- How many times have we all been to LOS and never seen anyone stabbed? Yet you see someone hit with a glass or bottle every weekend in the UK-

So on a scale of where you can have a good time if you mind your own business then LOS still rates close to the TOP.

Lets wait to see what really happened before we all go 'running scared' or deciding where we Holiday next year because of one post on a message board.

I cannot agree with this statement one bit, man makes laws that are deemed as a structure to enable us all to live together, if you take your words literally JB it would mean you accept that as I am a man if I decide to kill someone, rape them or do anything I wish you think it is okay as long as I accept the consequences of my actions. There are no acceptable reasons for killing another person and some of the reasons described here are certainly not acceptable to any sensible human being, this is not in my opinion a cultural thing. The law of Thailand does not state it is acceptable behaviour for a person to kill another, however it does appear to turn a blind eye in certain circumstances, perhaps if these laws were tightened up and enforced as they are in most of western Europe we would see far less of it.

There are many reason's deemed worthy of killing another man, not that we are talking about that either, but worth realizing.

Your values and someone elses are often very different, you see things in the light that you have and they see it totally different...Some people believe that if you sleep with his wife he has the right to kill you...that's just how it is in that society.

I wouldn't want to see the thai's model themselves after anyone else, I would not claim that any system really works. I wouldn't want to see the system of respect and ways of looking at things go towards any western ways.

This is another subject that you won't find everyone agreeing with each other...just another example of how we all see things from a different perspective.

I only found out about this forum when Nicke gave me his card a few years back, when I was at his bar, and i had to been to thai numerous times but my first or second trip to Patong and i did have the internet. Not every one knows of these forums or has the time to read the majority of the threads.

That being said, i had travelled a little with my work before coming to Thai and i think the old saying "when in rome do as the romans" i have always had the opinion that I am the visitor and I abide by their rules and laws. It is impossible to know all of the hidden rules but not insulting the locals and being prepared to say sorry I do not understand quickly I thought was an unwritten rule. Their country their rules, a smile and I am sorry can diffuse a lot of situations. Farg the ego, say sorry, if you have to buy them a beer, nearly always no more argument. To fight over a 40 baht, or what ever baht fare when you are drunk, not clever. Convert it back to your own currency and how long it takes you to earn that much. Is it really worth arguing over, just don’t use that service again and pass that information on. The best way to hurt them is in the pocket. No jobs no money!

I lived with wolfi for 3 months at the snow n i just heard about what happened to him yesterday...everyone that lived with us is devistated coz he was such a good guy. That story about suicide is straight out crap. he would never contemplate that. I don't understand the whole story about what happened n how the police must be so corupt to write it off as a suicide. i feel sick to know that some one could get away with this especially in front of such a big crowd.

The biggest give away is the whole stabbing in the chest. You cant possible stab urself with a samurai sword through the breast plate and the continue on to do it again. Wolfi was a very strong guy but not even he could do that. He was one of the people who stands back in a situation and was never violent even when drunk or on the receiving end of abuse from drunk locals at the snow. He was kind and gentle to everyone especially the girls no one ever had a complaint about him so the stuff about him treating girls with disrespect isn' right.

He wasn't there long enough to owe anyone money as he had only left Australia about 3-4 weeks ago and had been travelling between different countries the whole time. I agree with the fact that you cant go into some ones country and step on their toes because they will get angry but i just don't see how something tragic could of resulted from and argument with a taxi driver.
