My RANT!!! about Maintenance

Ach, here we go again, don't blame US for what you girls go through, you've all been brainwashed into thinking you have to do it for US......well, let me break it to you: you don't. You do it for yourself.

I'm with Bosco, I much prefer the casual/natural look. Every woman I was ever involved with looked better to me without the pedicure, manicure, hair dye, makeup, oils lotions potions and perfumes.

A LOT of what you describe is just basic hygiene.

Toe Nails: both men and women have to do this so no whining
Finger Nails: both men and women have to do this so no whining
Cleanliness: both men and women have to do this so no whining
Soft SKin and LOtions: There are plenty of shower products that clean and moisturize in one, A loofah mitt and a moisturizing body wash will take care of that. both men and women have to do this so no whining
Bald Beaver: That's your choice, not ours. Sure a baldy is a nice treat but a nicely trimmed bush is fine. You can achieve this in under a minute with a cordless trimmer plus the vibrations will get you off. both men and women have to do this so no whining

The problem with colouring your hair is that once you start, you're hooked. Unless you can handle a 3 month period where you look like a skunk until you natural hair grows all the way out.

I think the problem here is the old saying: vanity, thy name is woman!

As for the pressure on men to get caught up in this cycle? I ignore it but I know more than a couple who are falling into the trap......sucks to be them!!!!!! (btw, one of which had 65 pairs of jeans...just saying.......)

I didn't blame men for what women go through, I just said it's nice when they notice the effort. I freely admit this is all more for me than for anyone else, nothing changed about the routine when I was celibate.

Good lord, if I gave up the haircolor I'd be getting offered the senior citizen's discount. I'm just not ready for that. :shock:

Re: noticing the effort.

The problem with that is when you always look a certain way, are we to notice that you look this way all the time?

For eg: when a guy arrives to take you out, you open the door, he pulls out his note sheet and says:

Your hair, nails, toes, eyes, dress, makeup, lipstick, looks nice and my, what nice skin you have?

An analogy: when you drive, do you say (on every road you turn on to) my isn't this road smooth? Or do you say, when you hit an exceptionally rough road, My this road is R R R R ough (as you navigate through the potholes)?

This is one of the thing that I never understood (or accepted for that matter) about women: they do something for themselves, yet somehow put the onus on us to acknowledge it. In this case it is specifically stated that "it'd be nice if men noticed"....well the reverse must be true then "it is not nice when men don't notice".....kind of like (and how many of us have heard THIS): "I spend all this time making myself beautiful and you don't even care".....

For eg: I dated this YL who would go out, buy a whole carload of fancy fixings for dinner, with special cream sauce for the potatos, spices for the chicken breasts, spend hours in the kitchen making this fancy 4 course dinner, and then get all stressed if it didn't turn out just right, and then say "you don't appreciate the work that went into this..." (just saying hey dinner is amazing wasn't enough). Well, I would say to her: I'd rather spend the 2.5 hrs WITH you instead of having you slave away in the kitchen. Hell, grilled cheese and ketchup and a can of coke is fine with me.....(and no, I wasn't allowed to help, she'd shoo me away whenever I came in to lend a hand).

So, bottom line is there is some sort of onus being put on us for what you're doing for yourself. I for one don't accept that onus. If you choose to do it for yourself, then you should expect no praise or ??? from anyone else for your efforts.....

For eg: My harley was dead. I tried to start it and a puff of smoke came from under the seat. So after tracking down all the possibilities I was able to find the problem, and fix it. Reward for me is being able to ride it. I don't require someone else to say "heyyyyy great job getting your bike going" (specially when no one knew it was broken).......The reward for my accomplishments is my pride in myself, not from someone else.......but maybe that's just me......*shrugs*

You oughtta do what we do: don't shave very often...so when we do we get "heyyy you shaved AWESOME" lol........if we shaved all the time they'd get used to it and no more compliments/acknowledgement lol.....

Another thing you should do: find a guy that doesn't mind helping with the grooming. I used to shave my gf's beavers all the time, and even learned how to dye her hair so once a month, she'd come over to my place with a box of "just her colour" or whatever and we'd spend an hour together.....(and no, she wouldn't let me touch her boobs with my hands all covered with dye!!!!)

The only thing that bugs me about my wife is the amount of shoes she has....GOOD GOD!!

How does a woman possibly need THAT many shoes, and she keeps buying them (ya ok I love them on her feet...they look ssssoooo sexy!)

But I actually take longer to get ready then she does, she doesn't really wear alot of makeup, but then again she really dosen't need it (I tell her all the time she has a natural beauty about her)

She does highlight her hair, which is fine with me

High heel sandles - 36 pairs, oh wait, she is wearing a pair today so make that 37 :gasp:
High heel boots - 12 pairs
Flip flops - 6 pairs
Runners - 4 pairs

Oh ya and 3 pairs of thigh highs :whip:

That's not bad, 61 I think that comes to. I did a walk in closet for someone and I had to make sliding shoe shelves for, get this, 120 pairs. That was her seasonal amount. She had another 120 in storage. And? The cheapest pair she owned were $350.00..........

I agree, in general women do for themselves but there is incredible media and advertising pressure put on them so that isn't quite true. Look at how it was necessary for Susan Boyle to get a full makeover, everyone was in on it.
The same is slowly happening to guys, I've had several makeover suggestions and I've succumbed to a few of them.

I dunno about the makeover suggestions, must be you because I've never had anyone suggest one for me....I guess either there's no helping me or I'm perfect the way I am!!!!

About the media pressure etc. I agree, there's a lot of it but it is all based on someone's security with themselves. If you're self confident then you don't need to have someone else tell you what to buy, what to look like, or what to do with yourselves.

The same goes though for new products. Look at all the lemmings who LINE UP to buy the latest and greatest apple product, or software or xbox?

I think the marketing behind all these products and habits is simply a way for marketers to say to women: you're not good enough the way you are, you need to do all this to yourself to be better.....
