Rock Hard A No-no !

As I have said I was a long time regular. The Rock Hard Bar had a great run for many years in the early 90s until the early years of 2003- With no proper managment runing the place over the past 2 or 3 years it has become very boring. Musically and girls wise. The Rio bar? Club? or restaurnt seems to have lost it also. The best thing would be to sell the place to Sizzler!! Next please

I think Larry and his wife is the only one to know if they make more money after Jeff is out of it........All I know is that it looks better and way busier these days......
A close friend of mine used to go there a lot before, and even he admit that the place is better now.

not at all TM......spend the majority of my time in Phuket diving/drinkin/catching up with mates/and finding loverly little cuties........... in fact the only thing I like better about Patts is the Gogos....but that lasts about 3 nights for me then I'm over it........I am just not really a gogo kinda guy....I much prefer to head to a nightclub and meet gals on a more even footing.......with their clothes stil on so there is still some mystery their when you open the present........

But having said that.........anyone who thinks the gogos in Patong are even passable (with the possibility........and its a slim possibility.......of Dragon) hasn't been to BKK or Patts.....just MHO

I agree 100%, and when I made my comment about you being a Patts man, it was in the line of thinking of just the gogos...

The gogo girls in Patong are somewhat spoiled by all the attention they get... It's just a supply and demand thing when compared to the BKK or Pattaya gogo's where there are literally thousands of girls to choose from, who don't know whether they will get "picked" for the night. In Patong, it is slim pickings for the real cuties (my criteria anyway) and the girls know it so their prices and sometimes their attitudes reflect that.... oh, and the "shows" in Patong blow in comparison as well.

Why more Bangkok gogo girls don't make it down to Phuket is beyond me.

Found it very boring a few nights ago. Girls just going through the motions and showing little interest in the customers, no buzz or excitement about the place.

Reasonable drink prices for a gogo is a plus though and useful to use the a/c to cool off.

I think Larry knows Wayne allready a long time. Wayne has been working in Pattaya and BKK, and Larry also had a gogo in BKK, Washington Square. He lost money there. As for managers, I have known a lot. I think hardest working was Karen. Ira was good but did only daytime at the end. I like Jeff but can't see him as an excellent manager, to much drinking with friends and to little supervising, but other people may have a different opinion on that.
I have allways been a fan from Rock Hard, since the early nineties (when I found them better than gogo's in BKK and Patts). It went down a few years ago but I find it is better again now.

i think Rock Hard improved a lot recently - especially on the girl front.

Music was dance music once, and it was great. Then it reverted to rock the next couple of times i went in.

I think Dargon (and it is Dargon Masterwoodsman ) has had a bit of a slip concentrating too much on the supermodels who are frankly getting very dull with their constant hassles for drinks.

yes , you are probably right.........I do admit when i went in it was often between 21.00 and 22.00, perhaps the music gets better as the night goes on ......

I've been going there since it was called Raging Bull, through Dooleys, Peppermint and finally Rock Hard (may have missed one there). I've never really been a regular, but management saw fit to issue me with VIP cards under the various name changes and the wizard used to announce my arrival in the bar back in his DJ days, so I guess I know the place.

Have to say that it isn't very interesting any more and I usually only go there now because an expat mate of mine is dating one of the staff.

Sorry but I don't have any solutions for management; all I can do is stand on the sidelines and say "It ain't what it used to be".

I've heard various stories on why the number of gogo's is limited and sucks now. Guess there is about half what there was a few years ago. Maybe 1/3. Anyway short answer it isn't tolerated in the south like BKK or patts.

I don't know who's backing Roxy and I don't care. They must have spent a
fortune on the lease and improvements. At least there will be another decent
place for customers to go. It's a nightmare of a business to run and Jeff
has never operated the entire business himself. He'll have his hands full

his venture and I said he will always be my friend. When he left Rock Hard I
gave him one million Baht and a 110,000 Baht Rolex Watch for his honest and

Just mix it up,some younger/current/local tunes to keep the staff grooving and then keep the general public happy with some classics thru the age's.

Last thing you want is all the staff with long faces........also kills the vibe.Otherwise you might as well tune into your favourite radio station and hug your hi-fi

I am of the old school.The place was great back in the days when Bill was working there.The Hashers used to always get a big welcome from the big man.I even liked the Coyboy Go Go when it was going strong.:happyi:

I guess you´re right, but i have to say that i like Club Rio very much.I stayed last month in Phuket for nearly 4 weeks with my family and the place we enjoyed for a falang lunch was Rio´s.The restaurant is nice furnished and the service and food good.I visited Rock Hard a gogo only once at the daytime and i thought the girls look a bit bored too because of the daytime.I don´t complain if Rock hard changes and the restaurant is bringing in more money.There are enough other gogo bars there, but only a few nice restaurants like Rio´s.Just my 2 cents:happy:

I see your point on the number of gogo establishments, but I was taking the tack that the BKK gogo girls could push out a number of average/semi-average Patong gogo girls, and raise the standard to BKK or Patts levels to some degree... and therefore level the prices... and attitudes.

The best looking gogo girls in Patong look around at their competition, and just shrug. They can get a punter on any night they want, but it is not humanly possible to do so (or at least I think )... so they are the ones taking the pick... not the other way around as I believe it should be.

I realize the girls are not "cans of soup" put on a shelf to be shopped and they have choices too, but why wouldn't an attractive girl from BKK want to try a spin in Phuket? Some do, but not many.

To me, Patong "beer bar girls" (and there are plenty of cute and fun ones) have the same attitude as the BKK and Patts gogo girls... but, only because they realize that scoring a punter on any given night is not a certainty...
